From Alexander

“Kia ora, I'm Alexander (he, him).

I am an individual and relationship therapist located in Auckland, Aotearoa New Zealand. IFS is foundational to all of the services offered at our practice, On Point Therapy – this includes the provision of specialist psychosexual therapy.

My passion for relational psychotherapy and counselling began while teaching health education in my twenties. I was struck by how central relationships are to our experience of wellbeing, and yet how disconnected so many of us feel day-to-day.

Now in my 40s, I have come to realise the disconnect we experience doesn't necessarily ease with age - if anything, it can become more complex as adult life gets in the way. Unfortunately, life doesn't come with an instruction manual, and just to make things more interesting, it likes to occasionally throw us a few curve balls to remind us of that.

The truth is, growing up we learn more about how to fit in, avoid things, or push against discomfort than to be with it, learn from it, and move safely towards and through it. For many of us, this experience of wellbeing wasn't taught at school, seldom demonstrated in our families of origin, and yet is essential in understanding the relationships we have with ourselves, and with those around us.

Too often I hear of clients challenged to conquer their fears, overcome anxiety, or defeat depression.. yet those outdated approaches seem to bring further disconnection, not harmony to our inner system. In Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy, all parts of us are welcome. It is through the support, rather than the silencing or submission, of our parts that wholeness and healing can take place.

I welcome all inquiries about IFS at our practice, and encourage everyone considering therapy to ‘shop around’ and find what sits most comfortably with our system. To see if On Point Therapy is the right fit, please find more information and contact details at https://www.onpointtherapy.co.nz/contact-me.

I look forward to hearing from you.”
